The 2009 Association PAC Benchmarking Survey is a resource for association PAC managers to compare the performance of their political action committees with those of other trade, professional and business associations. This study is a companion piece to the Council's 2009 Corporate PAC Benchmarking Survey.
The study profiles the staffing, budgeting and key activities of 56 association PACs during the 2008 election cycle, and also contains fundraising and participation data.
Data from the study includes:
- Participant characteristics: of participating associations, just over half (54 percent) serve corporate memberships, 39 percent serve individuals and 7 percent serve both.
- Operating budget: The median annual PAC operating budget (including administrative/operating costs and consultants, but not salaries or PAC receipts) is between $50,000 and $75,000.
- Fundraising: The typical association PAC surveyed raised between $100,000 and $900,000 during the 2008 election cycle.
