VICE PRESIDENT, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS:  National trade association representing chain pharmacy industry seeks head of federal governmental affairs function. Position is responsible for developing the strategy, planning, organizing, and the management of federal affairs, political affairs and grassroots programs.  

Provide strategic direction for and overall management of the federal advocacy program including legislative lobbying campaigns, Congressional liaison, grassroots programs and political affairs activities, including NACDS Political Action Committee.  Position sets strategy/tactics on all federal issues.  Accountable for achieving measured results. Serve as chief lobbyist and legislative strategist in the development of legislative and lobbying campaigns on Capitol Hill.  Monitor and analyze federal legislative activity.  Provide for strategic utilization of grassroots and political affairs in the fostering and development of key congressional allies.  Develop and manage federal affairs budget. Staff planning and organization for dept. 

Maintain strong network of contacts with members of Congress and their staff. Advise on key health care developments. Communicate with NACDS membership and interact with member government affairs staff. Ensure effective use of coalitions.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ten years legislative/regulatory work experience preferably in health care with proven record of legislative accomplishments.  
  • Bachelor degree in relevant disciple (political science, public policy, business administration). Masters degree a plus.
  • Ability to think strategically and exercise excellent judgment.
  • Effective public speaking, outstanding written communications skills. 
  • Motivates and develops employees

Competitive salary and benefits package.  Office currently located in Old Town Alexandria (moving to Arlington Fall 2012).
