The Center for Housing Policy (the Center) is the research affiliate of the National Housing Conference. It works to broaden understanding of America's affordable housing challenges and examine the impact of policies and programs developed to address these needs. While incorporated as a separate 501(c)(3) organization, the Center is closely affiliated with NHC and seeks to advance the research goals of NHC and its members.
Position Summary
The National Housing Conference (NHC) and Center for Housing Policy (Center) are seeking a full-time vice president for marketing and communications. NHC and the Center are looking to expand their impact and operate efficiently and effectively in housing's new era. We seek a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience in being part of an executive management team and in working in a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals.
The vice president for marketing and communication will collaborate closely with members of the executive management team and others to ensure consistent and integrated use of brand, communication and marketing strategies for both NHC and the Center. The vice president for marketing and communications will also play a critical leadership role in NHC's Housing Communications Network. The Network is a new multi-year initiative focused on better coordinating communications strategies and messages within the housing field to elevate and maintain housing affordability as a first-tier issue on the national agenda.

Directly to NHC's President and CEO and
indirectly to the Executive Director of the Center.

NHC's membership marketing manager, and interns
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and sustain all aspects of NHC's Housing Communications Network in close coordination with NHC, its leadership and members, and other industry partners. Effort will also include cultivating initiative funders.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with communications professionals at partner organizations, and provide leadership to and actively participate in the Washington, DC housing community.
- Develop a strategic marketing communication plan for NHC and the Center defining objectives, target audiences, key messaging and tactical mix to build the company's market leadership position.
- Prepare media releases and conduct outreach to the media regarding the release of key Center for Housing Policy publications and data tools (e.g. Paycheck to Paycheck.)
- Provide leadership and oversight on the writing, editing, and translation of the work of NHC and the Center into user friendly formats for the website, publications, press materials, and other communications vehicles aimed at internal and external audiences.
- Maintain responsibility for organizational branding and brand awareness.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for NHC's communications and marketing for existing members and prospects in close coordination with NHC's president and CEO and membership marketing manager.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for the NHC and Center website (www.nhc.org) and for new and social media outreach through NHC's "Open House" Blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube.
- Work collaboratively with NHC's Policy and Advocacy Department to articulate policy priorities to NHC members and stakeholders through traditional, new and social media outreach and communications.
- Organize and host housing communications related working group meetings, forums and workshops on behalf of NHC and in conjunction with partner organizations.
- Supervise NHC's communications and new media associate and provide support to other NHC/Center staff, the Center's executive director and NHC's president and CEO as needed.
- Proactively establish and nurture relationships within media.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Policy, or a related field is required; Master's degree is strongly preferred;
- Eight or more years of communications and marketing experience ;
- Experience in the affordable housing field preferred;
- A demonstrated and extensive record of leadership in the development and implementation of comprehensive communications programs in a complex, multi-layered, intellectually charged work environment;
- A solid professional presence, energy, and drive; results-oriented;
- Superb organizational and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to diplomatically prioritize demands;
- A demonstrated track record of managing the writing, development and professional production of distinguished communications through print, broadcast and electronic media that have achieved organizational objectives;
- An effective communicator and listener, who brings a special blend of tact, political and diplomatic savvy to the position;
- Ability to juggle multiple projects, prioritize effectively and meet deadlines;
- Ability to work well with a broad range of people and in a team environment; and
- Sense of humor and creative spirit.
