Position Summary/Accountabilities:
Develops and maintains strategic grassroots and political action/involvement programs for Alliant Energy to encourage employee, retiree and shareowner awareness and involvement in the political and governmental process. Develops the lobbying and legislative strategy communications materials on issues that cross state and federal jurisdictions and develops tools to improve internal communication on legislative issues.
Job Functions:
Works with state and federal lobbyists to coordinate the development of lobbying, communications and legislative strategy materials such that Alliant Energy¿s position and strategy are clear and a consistent position on key issues is conveyed in each jurisdiction
Represents the Company to the state government on proposed legislation that is of vital concern to Alliant Energy and its customers
Develops and maintains credible and professional relationships with legislatures
Develops and maintains policies and procedures to ensure the Company¿s awareness of federal, state and local legislation and its impact on Alliant Energy
Manages the development of public/government affairs activities and their integration into overall departmental programs to develop effective employee, customer, public and shareowner relations
Develops an employee and retiree education plan to stimulate political understanding and interest through the political involvement program (EPAN). Arranges for internal and external meetings to promote and encourage EPAN membership
Arranges, advertises and coordinates brown bag lunches and other group activities with employees, retirees or shareowners to educate them on current legislative initiatives affecting Alliant Energy.
During election years creates promotional communications, delivered through a variety of media, to increase voter awareness/registration and to encourage employees to vote.
All other duties as assigned
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Physical requirements include sitting for great periods of time, talking in front of groups, finger dexterity, hearing and seeing. Environmental requirements include working indoors.
Technical/Job Skill Qualifications:
The candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications, and have demonstrated the following technical or job skills:
Education or experience equivalent to a four year degree from an accredited college or university
A minimum of five years technical and/or professional experience
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) preferred
Ability to work in a diverse work environment
Must have the ability to travel including possible out of town and overnight travel by air or land.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
