State Policy Analyst

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), a national not-for-profit association established in 1863 and representing over 81,000 veterinarians is seeking a State Policy Analyst to help develop and implement the AVMA's state legislative and regulatory initiatives. This individual will work collaboratively with AVMA staff and volunteer leadership to conduct research, develop programs, plan and attend events designed to educate and assist constituent organizations and other entities with state legislative and regulatory issues that have the potential to impact the practice of veterinary medicine.  They will assist in maintaining and disseminating information about statutes, regulations, local ordinances, judicial opinions and pending proposals that impact veterinary medicine.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of State Legislative and Regulatory Affairs in the Communications Division in our Headquarters Office in Schaumburg, IL, this position will work closely with staff, volunteer leadership and constituent organizations.  Must have a BA or BS degree in political science, public policy or a related field, law degree or paralegal certificate a plus, with 2 years' experience in public policy or government relations in a professional or trade association. Demonstrable interest in legislative and regulatory affairs; experience in agriculture or animal science a plus.  Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated knowledge of legislative and legal research software are required.  Some travel required.
