ACA International, the Association of Credit and Collection Professionals, is the premier international trade association representing the credit and collection industry, including third-party debt collectors, asset buyers, attorneys, and vendors.
ACA is currently recruiting for a State Government Affairs Specialist to work at ACA's headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The State Government Affairs Specialist will report to the Director of State Government Affairs and will provide substantive and administrative support for ACA's state and local advocacy initiatives in coordination with ACA state units.
The State Government Affairs Specialist responsibilities include assisting the Director of State Government Affairs with:
1. Identifying, monitoring and tracking state and local legislation and regulatory proposals affecting the credit and collection industry, including coordinating with ACA's state legislative tracking service provider.
2. Drafting written materials that summarize and analyze state legislation and proposed state and/or local regulations affecting the credit and collection industry.
3. Drafting correspondence to be sent to appropriate state and local officials, regulators, and policymakers outlining ACA's analysis and policy recommendations.
4. Responding to requests for information regarding state and local legislation and regulations from ACA members, ACA state units, and ACA staff as required.
5. Drafting communications regarding the impact of state and local legislation and regulations on the industry, and managing dissemination of information to ACA members and staff.
6. Organizing ACA's Interstate Committee, including organizing the agenda and preparing materials for monthly legislative conference calls and assisting with strategic planning meetings.
7. Aiding the Director of Public Affairs and the Director of Political and Legislative Grassroots to grow grassroots participation in the states and media outreach.
8. Maintaining the state affairs section of ACA's government affairs department pages on ACA's website.
REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree
- 2+ years of relevant on-the-job experience or advanced technical training or experience required.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, required.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and multi-task essential.
- Experience working in the credit and collection or finance industries preferred.
- State legislative experience preferred.
