Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is seeking a full-time candidate to join the growing Political Law practice group as a Sr. Public Policy Specialist to assist in managing day-to-day compliance issues for clients of the firm. The ideal candidate will have a background with campaign finance, lobby disclosure, pay-to-play, state and local lobby and state political campaign issues. Duties include but are not limited to the following.

- Research and respond to client requests as needed
- Prepare and file lobbying registration and disclosure reports at the federal and state levels
- Manage multiple PACs on a day to day basis:
o Maintain PAC balances.
o Maintain compliance records.
o Submit any state required PAC filings in a timely manner.
o Submit federal PAC filings in a timely manner.
o Resolve any inconsistencies of PAC balances or filings.
o Assist clients as needed with solicitations and PAC data reports
- Draft memorandum, papers, and letters for clients.
- Draft Alerts and other information updates to be published online.
- Research various topics of importance to clients on campaign finance and lobbying matters.
- Monitor political contributions of clients to increase compliance with federal, state and local limitations.
- Familiarity with state and local lobby requirements and reporting.
- Assume other responsibilities as requested in support of the practice group's goals and objectives
- Must have a 4-year college degree.
- This position is based in Washington, D.C. Must live in D.C. area.
- Preferably have at least one year experience in maintaining compliance with lobbying disclosure(either House or Senate or both) and FEC filings for a political action committee (can be a campaign committee).
- Familiarity with Aristotle PAC management software.
- Must be a self starter able to operate independently.
- Must be able to demonstrate strong customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office including Word and Outlook,Excel and Powerpoint.
- Must be able to multi-task and prioritize among competing tasks.
- Must be able to complete tasks thoroughly under pressure and time constraints.
- Must possess good judgment and a strong sense of responsibility, integrity and loyalty.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship.
- Understanding of and ability to apply federal requirements for political activity disclosure and reporting.
- Understanding of political and legislative processes.
- Strong research and writing skills.
