The IIS Communications team supports both IIS internal and external communications, providing best-in-class strategies and tactics in the areas of marketing communications, advertising, media relations, organizational communications, web communications and technology, and creative media design. Members of the team are located at IIS centers across the globe, working with site executives to engage internal and external audiences within the community.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of media relations and marketing communications programs that support the strategic direction of the business/product line/pursuit team, which are consistent with growth goals, as well as monitor and report on programs' effectiveness through built in metrics and measures that are timely and meaningful.; direct messaging development efforts to ensure that the business's external communications (including media coverage, speeches, Internet presence, marketing materials, advertising and tradeshows) serve to advance the business unit's goals and objectives and improves the business unit's reputation outside of the company.
- Work closely with and assist the Vice President, Communications with all external communications plans, programs and activities.
- Work with significant media (top tier) along with trade press and other specific media and major trades in the industry space. Build relationships with local media where company has significant employee, customer and partner presence.
- Write, edit and serve as central point for press releases, working with staff functions to ensure accuracy and conformance to legal and other requirements. Draft and oversee press release policy and procedures throughout the organization.
- Along with the Vice President, Communications, manage outsourced public relations firms and advertising agency and provide them with strategic direction and guidance for success.
- Write speeches for senior leadership when required; develop presentations for senior leadership.
- Identify issues and opportunities for the business to be "in front of" and cultivate the business's executives as spokespersons on these topics.
- Lead and oversee IIS Thought Leadership program including the identification of TL topics and program execution.
- At times and as requested, serve as external spokesperson for the company.
- Serve in a functional management role over the IIS marketing communications and public relations staff.
- Develop the marketing communications and public relations team.Inspire, motivate and lead the professional growth and development of staff members.
- Demonstrated capability to manage teams and budgets.
- Contribute to the development of the organization as a whole with proactive demonstration of commitment to excellence.
- Exposure to government/public affairs activities and a background in developing communication strategy in support of a public affairs program.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with people across an organization, and to integrate resources, in a timely and organized manner.
- Ability to work in a changing environment, balancing the needs of the various internal and external stakeholders.
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; preference for communications, English or business; master's degree preferred.
- 12+ Yrs related experience
- Extensive experience with relationship management with the business media.
- Experience leading and managing teams.
- Must be a problem solver.
- Strategic communications planner and a significant hands-on contributor.
- Superior writing and communications skills.
- Financial acumen...ability to read and understand a balance sheet.
- Energetic self-starter; willing to take initiative with confidence.
- Must be creative, persuasive and diplomatic in presenting ideas and managing their implementation.
- A proven team player, who thrives in a collaborative setting and possesses a confident management style and leadership ability; evidence of discretion and tact in dealing with people and issues.
- A demonstrated record of leadership and success as a marketing communications and public relations professional.Prior demonstrated effectiveness in the development and implementation of a results oriented, well rounded marketing organization. Proven ability to build and retain a high performing marketing team.
- Balance of creativity and marketing fundamentals in order to deliver desired results
Desired Skills:
- Masters Degree
- Seven to twelve years in a business environment. Minimum six years in an external communications role. Experience within public relations firms and advertising agencies a plus.
