Sr Director Federal Gov't Affairs

Responsible for developing, establishing and managing Federal government affairs policies, procedures, plans and programs. Serve as the liaison between sanofi-aventis and and federal agencies, legislators and staff. Supports the management of the DC-based office, including other lobbyists, support staff, and outside consultants. In the absence of the VP, will lead the Federal Government Affairs function on pharmaceutical matters effecting sanofi-aventis. Contribute to the development and implementation of PAC-giving strategy in consultation with US senior management, and coordinate with state team on PAC development and administration.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides government affairs support for global Corporate initiatives and arranges and accompanies CEO at meetings with senior government officials, including Members of Congress.
• Provides government affairs support to the North American Regional Management Council.
• Supports the Washington, DC office. Retain, supervise, and advise outside firms. Liaise with HQ executive team and inform them of pertinent information from the Federal government.
• Develop and implement policy strategies, including prioritizing issues to balance Company needs and political environment. Lobby Congress, the Administration and Federal agencies as necessary to achieve the Company's legislative goals. Develop and maintain relationships with key Members and staff. Oversee development of supporting materials used in Hill education and outreach.
• Monitor legislative activity and anticipate policy or political challenges and opportunities. In consultation with the VP, advise internal stakeholders and recommend alternate Company legislative strategies as appropriate.
• Coordinate appearances of Company witnesses before Members of Congress and their committees and assist in the preparation of any necessary supporting testimonies, as necessary
• Contribute to the development and implementation of PAC-giving strategy in consultation with US Senior management, and coordinate with state team on PAC development and administration.
• Participate in trade group activities, including PhRMA, BIO, & OFII. Monitor and influence trade group policy setting to ensure that it is in line with Company principles.
• Liaise, develop and maintain effective relationships with other public/private sector efforts involved in healthcare.
Requirements : Education: BA/BS - Government, public policy MA/MS/MB-JD plus 9-12 years experience

Knowledge of government functions & process - In depth knowledge.
