Specialist, Federal Affairs

The National Office located in Downtown Chicago is seeking an individual to fill the Specialist, Federal Affairs. The Specialist is responsible for providing support on federal legislative and regulatory affairs to the Department of Government Affairs, as assigned by both the Senior Director of Government Affairs and the Managing Director of Federal Affairs. Those assignments include: (1) conducting research; (2) drafting letters and other written material; (3) maintaining congressional targets database; (4) maintaining lobbying tracking reports; (5) engaging in follow-up contacts with congressional offices and federal agencies; and (6) working on programs, projects, and briefings sponsored by the Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintaining various records and reports:

Maintaining the CongressPlus database of congressional targets and contacts;
Generating reports and background materials, as needed, on congressional targets; and
Maintaining the lobbying tracking database for staff who lobby on the federal level.
Drafting written materials and correspondence:

Drafting and sending informational and advocacy messages and alerts to congressional staff;
Drafting electronic messages and updates on federal policy for chapters and grassroots advocates; and
Drafting letters and other written materials on federal legislative and regulatory issues and priorities;
Working on projects as assigned by the Managing Director of Federal Affairs and the Senior Director of Government Affairs:

Conducting various research projects on federal policy regarding Alzheimers Disease;
Assisting in the planning of, preparation for, and implementation of programs and briefings sponsored by the Department of Government Affairs, including Hill briefings and Advocacy Summit events; and
Undertaking other projects, as assigned and as appropriate.
Representing the Association and the Department:

Engaging in various follow-up contacts with congressional offices, including by phone and by email;
Participating occasionally, as appropriate, in Hill visits and other lobbying efforts;
Representing the Department in internal Association meetings, as needed; and
Attending and participating in coalition meetings and events, as requested.
