Specialist - AHAPAC in Federal Relations

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities.  We are currently seeking a Specialist - AHAPAC in Federal Relations.

Purpose

To develop and execute strategies associated with the AHAPAC and political affairs goals of the American Hospital Association. Performs a range of highly responsible and confidential administrative and professional activities, including the coordination of highly visible events and activities, for the American Hospital Association Political Action Committee. 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and executes functions for the political affairs team.  Develops ongoing relationships with State PAC contacts.  Develops and maintains professional relationships with the Washington political community to assist with AHAPAC visibility. 
  • Tracks AHA participation in various fundraising events for Members of Congress through accurate database entry and record keeping of event invitations.  Provides a schedule of fundraising events for the Federal Relations weekly meeting.  Works with political affairs team to organize fundraising event attendance and logistics.
  • Organizes AHAPAC logistics - sponsored fundraising events for Members of Congress.  Serves as event planner for AHAPAC events at the annual meeting and throughout the year. 
  • Assists in developing AHAPAC online solicitations. Coordinates AHA involvement in PAC fundraising and disbursement process as it relates to the state associations.  Responsible for accurate maintenance of all AHAPAC disbursement records database.  Prepares AHAPAC reports for  boards of directors, state hospital associations and membership. Maintains the political action database with VOCUS and supports other federal relations activities. 
  • Coordinates PAC correspondence, including letters of recognition for state awards, gift distribution, and thank-you acknowledgements to AHAPAC contributors. Coordinates the development of AHAPAC materials by working directly with vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science
  • 3-5 years experience in trade show/professional association, political campaign organization, PAC
  • Knowledge of political affairs, including internet advocacy is required.
  • Advanced computer skills are required which include Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and the VOCUS database system
  • Must be able to professionally interact and assist AHA members and state/metropolitan hospital association on a daily basis.  Ability to work well in a demanding environment.  This position requires excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.  Must take initiative and work independently to accomplish many tasks on short deadlines.  A working knowledge of complex health care issues is helpful. Very strong attention to detail is required.
