Quick Leonard Kieffer has been retained to recruit a Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the Illinois Hospital Association. The IHA advocates for and supports hospitals and health systems as they serve their patients and communities. The IHA operations are directed by the President and a 29-member Board of Trustees. Constituency sections for disproportionate-share hospitals, small and rural hospitals, behavioral health, investor-owned hospitals, and volunteers, as well as councils and task forces, provide members with opportunities to participate in the Association's policy development process.
The Senior Vice President of Government Affairs will be responsible for leading IHA’s advocacy efforts on both state and federal levels by executing the Association’s advocacy objectives to IHA members, legislative staff, and state and federal office holders. He or she will engineer the effective development of policy statements and a process for membership input. The SVP of Government Affairs will serve as the primary spokesperson with elected and appointed officials, including state and federal legislators, and relevant regulatory agencies. In addition, he or she will interact with lobbyists to communicate association advocacy positions and encourage collaboration.
The ideal candidate will have previous government relations experience, as well as a health care background. In addition, candidate must be familiar with Illinois government office holders, particularly those that influence healthcare legislation and must have good working relationship with both state and federal legislative officials, on both sides of the aisle. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required with a Master’s degree preferred.
