This position will work as a member of Sony Electronics' communications team, based in Park Ridge, N.J. In the role of Senior PR Specialist, you will focus on developing and executing public relations programs and activities for Sony Electronics' technologies used in a diverse range of industries, including medical, security, videoconferencing and photo printing. You will also promote the use of HD technology for TV and movie production, digital cinema, professional sports and 3D applications. This position will also coordinate activities with Sony international PR counterparts as well as with sister companies such as Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment, and Sony Computer Entertainment to develop events and activities.
The primary focus of this role is media relations: generating positive and accurate editorial coverage in trade, consumer and business media; planning and managing press conferences and product introductions, and supporting Sony business groups at trade shows and conferences. You will also develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key internal customers (marketing groups, senior management, etc.) as well as external contacts (print, broadcast, online news media and industry analysts). There is a strong emphasis on developing written materials (press releases, case studies, Web site copy, etc.)
The candidate will be responsible for helping to drive a social networking strategy for Sony's professional products, raising awareness on industry sites and blogs, as well as mainstream sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr.
This will require you to develop a broad understanding of global Sony corporate issues, business developments, and brand image expectations, so as to strategically integrate these considerations into day-to-day communications strategies for the local business units and product categories while ensuring the global Sony message is maintained.
- BS/BA degree preferably in Communications or Journalism with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in a corporate or PR agency environment, preferably in b-to-b or technology-related industry is required
- Journalism experience is also preferred
- Strong written and verbal communications are required
- Ability to provide sound strategic PR counsel to business group executives is a plus
- Must be able to work effectively under deadlines and juggle several assignments simultaneously
- The ability to learn and understand new products and technologies quickly and to communicate this knowledge clearly and concisely is essential
- Ability to travel 20% of the time
