The position is charged to uncover and develop competitive growth opportunities and works proactively to ensure healthcare economics and reimbursement challenges are managed shaping a positive business environment. Develops relationships with key thought leaders and proactively identifies business opportunities that can be incorporated into brand / pipeline business plans. Develops and coordinates execution of activities in alliance development.
Accountabilities:
- Coordinates with Cubist business segment leaders to align and incorporate in-line Product strategies and pipeline into policy objectives.
- Expand Cubist's vision of its public sector model, including working with Strategic Planning, Corporate Development (relating to portfolio management) and Corporate Communications (relating to image / relationship building).
- Creates informatics system to track all corporate, business segment, brand interests and priorities in healthcare sector. Responsible for researching, investigating all issues that may have an impact on healthcare/access/reimbursement and business operations.
- Accountable for maintaining an external focus, proactively identifies issues and opportunities.
- Accountable for all healthcare impact analysis on relevant federal legislation, trends and healthcare reform measures that would affect company's business operations.
- Serves as an integrated strategic partner and resource for corporate and brand teams to develop and deliver comprehensive government affairs programs based on needs and objectives.
- Creates policy and develops strategy to support product objectives as well as overall corporate/business objectives. Drives tactics and execution to meet policy and strategic objectives that result in consistent corporate policy and directs implementation.
- Identifies with internal businesses (e.g., HEOR working group) the need to create compelling health care economics data and evidence to support increased access and favored reimbursement products
- Responsible for communicating impacts to appropriate departments and driving policy creation/strategy and implementation.
- Participates in the development and assessment of business strategy to identify communication opportunities and needs e.g. MRSA, CDAD/Gram Negative market pre-launch preparation
- Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate / relevant agencies (e.g., CMS / AHRQ / MedPAC) and Congressional staff
- Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate allied /alliance groups to position company's business growth opportunities within the Public sector and the broader Healthcare system.
- Representing Cubist in DC-based trade association State-Government Affairs working groups and policy committees
Required Skills and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree required. Pharm D, JD, MBA, Masters Public Policy desirable.
- Must have pharmaceutical business knowledge, reimbursement experience, understand principles of business and exhibits strategic thinking.
- Eight (8) + years business experience in reimbursement/government affairs development.
- Project management, public policy experience with government programs and managed markets experience is highly desirable
- Managerial experience and budget management desirable.
- Lobbying experience desirable.
- Understanding of Federal payer programs, health policy experience desirable.
- Work Environment: Office with approximately 20 -25 % travel required.
