Senior Manager for Business Initiatives

Position Description

  • Manages selection and performance of Public Affairs and Government Relations suppliers (for example, lobbyist and media consultants, polling and pubic affairs firms, trade and business associations) by identifying suppliers consistent with company's current business and political needs; managing request for proposal (RFP) process; negotiating contract and service terms; and leading the evaluation of supplier performance in terms of contract agreements and compliance with company policy.
  • Represents company's regulatory, compliance, and policy positions and initiatives to external groups by engaging legislative officials to discuss company positions; advancing the company's position at industry and legislative events, conferences, public forums, committee hearings, and panels; preparing statements and testimony; presenting at issue panels and national conferences; testifying at local and state legislative hearings; and discussing emerging issues or pending legislation with external stakeholders.
  • Manages assigned functions and business units in policy development and the legislative and regulatory management process by developing strategies for policy development; tracking and recommending modifications to proposed legislation; developing and managing internal and external communications regarding policy and legislative issues; leading cross-functional teams; implementing the educational process for Public Affairs, Government Relations, and assigned business units on new and developing policy issues; and assessing and modifying current processes.
  • Ensures the legislative and regulatory needs of internal business units are met by developing and implementing business unit strategies and plans to address business needs and goals; communicating and coordinating policy initiatives with internal teams, Public Affairs and Government Relations leadership, Field Team, and other internal stakeholders; creating and managing internal working groups to address business challenges; researching, compiling, and organizing source information (for example, policy think tanks, industry associations) to write company position statements, talking points, model legislation, and other materials; benchmarking with other companies regarding political and policy positions; and determining impact of legislative issues to internal business unit goals.
  • Develops and leads the execution of key initiatives by collaborating with leadership and key stakeholders; identifying business needs; developing programs to best maximize impact to company in high-priority markets; ensuring alignment of program goals with corporate strategy; and leading internal and external cross-functional teams for the execution of initiatives in the field.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Political Science, Business, or related field and 5 years experience managing projects or campaigns in politics, public affairs, public policy, or related field OR 7 years experience in managing projects or campaigns in politics, public affairs, public policy, or related field.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years government relations experience in a Fortune 500 company.
  • Project management experience in political election or grassroots advocacy campaign(s).
  • 2 years corporate experience involving direct media relations or coalition building.
  • 2 years direct lobbying experience in specified geographic region.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
