- Previous experience as a press secretary or at a PR firm is highly desirable
- Must communicate effectively and persuasively in person and in writing - writing samples and writing test required
- Strong research and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; attention to detail
- Experience working in a policy-oriented environment
- Working knowledge of Capitol Hill and legislative process
- Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Duties:
Handle media relations for client projects:
- Contribute to the development of media strategies
- Oversee junior staff on the development and maintenance of targeted press lists
- Identify and develop media opportunities for clients
- Draft media materials - press releases, fact sheets, pitch letters
- Disseminate materials and conduct follow-up to targeted reporters/outlets; develop and maintain relationships with key reporters
Maintain client websites:
- Oversee junior staff on the day-to-day updating and maintenance of two websites
- Proactively generate new content ideas and opportunities to drive traffic to websites
Support client teams:
- Serve as a primary client contact
- Manage all written communications with client (edit/approve agendas, minutes, presentations, etc.)
- Coordinate and manage events (breakfasts, press conferences, meetings)
- Compose client updates and strategic memos
Support new business development:
- Conduct and analyze research (e.g., media analyses, write strategic background memos)
- Contribute to brainstorming and strategy development
- Help develop new business proposals
