Regional State Government Affairs Manager

Job Description

The successful individual will help develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for achieving specific state government relations results that are favorable to the interests of the company.   The candidate will have primary responsibility for identifying and addressing state legislative and regulatory threats to Mead Johnson and to promote positive legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities

- Establish a positive, credible and influential presence with state governments

- Position company as a key resource and contributor in nutrition and healthcare policy among opinion leaders, policymakers and their staff

- Track, monitor and act on pending and enacted legislation

- Communicate with elected officials and their staff members, state agencies, interest groups, associations and other lobbyists to convey company positions on issues

- Work with Supervisor to draft and gain internal consensus and approval for legislation, amendments to legislation, memorandum, letters, testimony, briefing materials and talking points, as my be required, on an issue by issue basis

- Develop and manage state lobbying strategies and execute on priority issues

- Help manage retained lobbyists

- Ensure compliance with lobbyist disclosure laws

- Cultivate, grow and manage relationships with key legislators, executive officials and staff

 

Requirements

- BS or BA required.

- Minimum 5 to 7 years related legislative, political, association or business     experience with a minimum of 3 years direct lobbying experience required

- Ability to maintain effective political and business relationships

- Ability to travel extensively up to 50% of the time

- Ability to prioritize numerous competing goals

- Ability to work comfortably and effectively with top level state government officials throughout the political spectrum

-Proven track record of advancing important issues through the state legislative process

- Familiarity with legislative and political processes

- Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office

- Ability to effectively and concisely present complex data and concepts

- Solid organizational, planning and communication skills

- Excellent legislative / issue research and analytical skills

Mead Johnson is currently recruiting to fill two (2) Regional State Government Affairs positions.   Northeast / Midwest:  can be located in Albany, NY or Indianapolis.   South / West:  will be located in Sacramento, CA
