San Francisco State University is seeking a full-time Publicist/Staff Writer who will focus on social media tactics as well as more traditional public relations work of writing press releases and web stories and pitching stories to reporters.
University Communications is responsible for advancing the awareness, understanding and support of the University through media relations, publications, marketing, social media and other communications tactics.
Minimum qualifications:
This position requires a significant amount of time on the telephone and at the computer. There are occasional periods of concurrent activities that require long work hours. The incumbent is expected to track media during off-work hours to maintain abreast of current issues in the arenas of education, public affairs and marketing in general in the CSU system and specifically related to SF State.
The anticipated salary range is $4,167 - $5,000 per month.

- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college/university.
- 2-5 years of professional work experience in the field of communications, public relations or journalism.
- Understanding of and experience working with earned news media (broadcast/print) and/or social media.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships within the university and community, and with the media, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills.
- Demonstrated good news judgment.
- Familiarity with Dreamweaver web software
- Experience in higher education
- Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese or Spanish
- Experience taking, editing and producing videos
