Public Relations Specialist I (32059)
Description
Liaise with the local media outlets to coordinate details of traffic incidents, and, where appropriate, provide video feeds. Monitor transportation systems to keep informed of all incidents and assist GDOT's Media and Communication Relations Specialist as directed. This position will have some supervisory responsibilities including, training, recruiting, interviewing, and interacting with staff to provide employee communications, mentoring and advocacy.
Assists in gathering and preparing informational material for dissemination through radio, TV, and other related media. May schedule, coordinate, and report results of demonstrations and events. Assists in securing media coverage for organizational programs and activities. May assist organizational staff in preparing public statements, press releases, speeches, newsletter and tours. Performs clerical and administrative support tasks. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Works under immediate supervision.
Required Skills
Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Ability to work split shift and be available at a moments notice. Split shift is Monday-Friday 5am-9am, 3pm-7pm.
Required Experience
May require a Bachelor's degree. One to three years experience interacting with members of the media to field questions concerning traffic incidents and demonstrated capability to interact with transportation management systems to access relevant data including incident reports and distributing video feeds to the media. Prior experience in a supervisory or human resource role is considered a plus. Candidates must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
