POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Public Relations Manager is responsible for 1) gaining positive external exposure for the Shaklee products and philosophy in outside print and electronic media; 2) enhancing corporate visibility and credibility; and 3) capturing and addressing negative media about Shaklee.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Serve as partner to other functional areas, e.g., Product Management and Sales & Field Development
• Lead the Public Relations department to agreed upon measures of success including:
• Product and Business Opportunity Promotion
• Gain external exposure for Shaklee products by generating media placements, plan for communication and use by the Field for business building
• Work with Marketing Services, Legal, Research/Health Sciences and other internal experts to draft appropriate media materials
• Maintain and update press materials and establish links from online press releases to products on the web site
• Provide appropriate materials on products and product lines in response to specific media requests
• Work with Sales and Field Development to develop and update database of Sales Leader career success stories for media promotion and variety of promotional uses
• Media Relations
• Plan appropriate media strategies for promotion of the business opportunity, new products, sponsored programs and corporate initiatives
• Maintain an updated Quick Fact Directory in preparation for all calls from Shaklee Executives to the media
• Draft press releases, backgrounders, and determine appropriate content for media kits
• Develop feature releases on relevant topics that enhance Shaklee's reputation as a credible source of information for external publication and Internet sites
• Maintain databases for target media; monitor editorial calendars and cultivate media contacts
• Advance relationships with industry media contacts
• Proactively respond to negative media and issues related to Shaklee's industry or products
• Monitor and respond as appropriate to daily PROFNET and MediaSource listings from journalists working on current stories or researching topics for future articles or features
• Internet Opportunities
• Monitor online venues to identify potential media opportunities for Shaklee
• Actively seek and link appropriate Internet sites to Shaklee web sites
• Respond to online external inquiries from Shaklee web sites
• Corporate Citizenship
• Increase media exposure and recognition for Shaklee and the winners of the annual Community Caretakers Awards and the Dr. Shaklee Memorial Scholarship Award Programs; coordinate for outside media visibility for other corporate sponsored or supported programs
• Handle tours of corporate headquarters for special guests
• Order and send special promotional gifts and/or product baskets for media opportunities
• Identify and work with photographers and outside experts for collateral promotional materials
• This person shall be held accountable for ensuring 1) increased sales and visibility, 2) exposure for Shaklee products, 3) identification of business opportunities, 4) corporate leadership and enhanced reputation with identified external target audiences; and, 5) the tracking, monitoring and evaluation of media placements.
Position Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years experience in Public Relations
• B.S. or equivalent in Public Relations or related field
• Excellent writing skills
• Knowledge of methods of approach and "pitch" for appropriate media
• Knowledge of public relations services and sources for media outreach and monitoring
• Persuasive oral communication skills
• Knowledge of web-based resources for media contacts
• Knowledge of network (or multilevel) marketing a plus
• Must work well with others
• Must work well under pressure
