Public Relations and Community Affairs Manager - Central Market

POSITION: Public Relations and Community Affairs Manager

LOCATION: Dallas, TX

Scope of Position

Working with the Marketing/Advertising/PR team at Central Market's Division office in Dallas, this experienced and talented individual will plan and manage Central Market's media relations and community affairs efforts.

Public Relations

  • Drives media relations efforts throughout Texas-print, online, broadcast-by creating relevant pitches and story angles
  • Develops and writes media alerts, news releases, backgrounders, web content and other press materials
  • Creates, cultivates and maintains media contacts
  • Organizes media events
  • Oversees public relations contractors and organizes weekly public relations conference call/meeting
  • Maintains public goodwill for Central Market
  • Act as a liaison for Central Market to H-E-B Public Affairs team
  • Attend interviews and, within defined parameters, act as a spokesperson for Central Market

Community Affairs

  • Works with the Sr. Mgr, Marketing and Communications to develop sponsorships, negotiate sponsorship benefits and plan community partnership strategies
  • Works with individual store Partners to maximize community relations budget in each market
  • Works with Marketing Coordinator and accounting to manage Community Relations budget
  • Collaborate with store operations Partners to organize community events
  • Recruit, train and supervise Partners for volunteer activities and initiatives
  • Represent the company at key functions and events

Candidate will demonstrate the following core competencies

  • Ability to maintain good relationships in the community including public and private sectors and non-profit organizations
  • Special event and signature community program execution to include planning, logistics, and measurements of success against stated objectives
  • Define resource needs according to budgets and develop action plans for programs and events
  • Experience with managing outside public relations, advertising and promotional contractors preferred
  • Idea and ‘big picture' thinking; create, organize and implement large public events
  • Manage Central Market/H-E-B public relations plan and strategies, including the maintenance of public branding opportunities and events
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks with keen attention to detail

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in public relations, marketing, communications, public policy, journalism or related field
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication skills and strong public speaking/presentation skills
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in communications, public relations, community relations, and/or retail marketing
  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while managing up
  • Understanding of financial reporting; experience a plus
  • Detail-oriented self-starter who requires minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment or as an individual contributor as deemed necessary
  • Knowledge of Central Market brand and product offerings
  • Advanced PC skills, including MS Office Suite, Outlook and web-based programs. Media tracking software experience (such as Cision or Bacon's) a plus
