Program Assistant - State Health Policy Group

Job Description: AcademyHealth, the professional home for health services researchers, policy analysts and practitioners, is currently seeking a Program Assistant will provide staff support for the State Health Policy Group (SHPG).  This group oversees the work of the State Coverage Initiatives (SCI) program. The SCI program is a foundation-sponsored technical assistance program designed to provide information and technical assistance to state leaders in order to help them move coverage expansion efforts as well as broader health care reform efforts forward. The Program Assistant will be an integral player in facilitating communication between the SHPG team and state policymakers and will assist with a variety of tasks in support of the SHPG's technical assistance to states and meeting and publication production.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate administrative tasks for the State Health Policy Group including SCI meeting support and database maintenance; 

Maintain and update program Web site and its Web-based products;

Conduct Internet and library research;

Maintain large state database to target specific groups for product dissemination and meeting invitations;

Draft articles for program publications and Web site;

Assist in maintaining contacts and relationships with state officials and other policy makers;

Create and format tables, graphs, charts, presentations and other graphics;

Logistical and substantive support for meetings, workshops, and consultations: coordinate logistics, supervise registration, correspond with state officials, and prepare meeting materials and notebooks;

Monitor subcontractor invoices and deliverables; and

Support other administrative and research activities in support of AcademyHealth projects.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university required;

Some internship or other relevant work experience.  Experience in a health policy setting a plus;

Professional interest in state health policy or health care issues;

Mature, detailed-oriented individual able to work both independently and with a team;

Self-starter with excellent attention to detail;

Strong analytical skills;

Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle several priorities;

Strong written and oral communications skills;

Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

Experience managing website content is a plus; and

Must be flexible and have a sense of humor.
