About the Yale-China Association:
The Yale-China Association is one of the foremost institutions focused on building grassroots relations with China in the areas of education, health, public service, and the arts. Founded in 1901, the Association has a history of over a century of working in China. It has offices in New Haven and Hong Kong. Though closely affiliated with the Yale University community, Yale-China is a separately incorporated and administered non-profit organization.
Position Description:
The Program Assistant will work closely with the Manager, Public Service and Yale Campus Programs, on various programs within that portfolio. Duties will include program management and support, event coordination, publicity and marketing of programs, and other program and administrative work.
Essential Duties
- Assist the program manager in day-to-day management of programs and activities;
- Work closely with the manager to coordinate the Service Internship Program, including identifying and coordinating internship placements, managing housing and other program logistics, leading information sessions, providing on-going program management and supervision of interns while the program is in session, conducting an annual program evaluation, and grant reporting;
- Plan, coordinate, and publicize the "Fireside Chat" series of lectures held at the Yale-China offices;
- Assist with recruitment and selection for all Yale Campus programs, including attending career fairs, information sessions, and other events;
- Create publicity materials, press releases, newsletter articles, and website and social media updates for Yale-China programs;
- Manage and welcome visiting delegations;
- Work with other Yale-China staff on various projects and events as needed;
- Some evening and weekend work required.
Education and Training
A bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Prior travel to or familiarity with China and/or East Asia is helpful, as is proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese. At least one year of professional experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to pay keen attention to details
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, office procedures, demands, and deadlines
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent judgment, professional demeanor, well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to thrive in a cross-cultural environment
- Proficient Mandarin or Cantonese language skills
- Must be willing to travel to China and/or Hong Kong as necessary
