Policy Director

The Policy Director will work closely with the CEO and the President of Millennium Promise to lead the organization's overarching policy-focused initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders with the US Government, international financial institutions, the diplomatic corps, think tanks, and others as necessary on relevant and emerging policies and legislation related to Millennium Promise and its flagship initiative, the Millennium Villages project.
Identify opportunities for formal and informal policy collaboration between Millennium Promise and key US Government departments and agencies focused on issues pertaining to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
Work with developed country governments, multilateral institutions, private philanthropies and non-governmental organizations to mobilize and help coordinate support for MDG-related scale-up strategies developed by African national and sub-national governments.
Stay abreast of emerging developments in international development policy, and track developing policy trends that affect Millennium Promise's ability to carry out its mission.
Seek opportunities for MDG-relevant global policy innovations and breakthroughs on an ongoing basis.
Support grassroots advocacy activities.
Implement the public policy goals established by the Board of Directors and the CEO.
Coordinate and draft Millennium Promise position statements and comments in collaboration with the CEO. Draft testimony and position papers as needed.
Identify opportunities to explain and advance the policy goals of Millennium Promise through traditional and emerging outlets, including briefings, seminars, symposia, and online communities.

DESIRED SKILLS AND CREDENTIALS

Advanced degree in international relations, public policy, development economics, medicine or other relevant discipline.
10+ years experience in related field.
Proven track record managing senior-level relationships spanning business, government and civil society.
Significant experience in senior national and international policy settings. Complementary private sector experience is an asset.
Established track record of personal leadership, diplomacy, and entrepreneurship
Fluency in English essential. Fluency in French a plus.

LOCATION

Based in NY or Washington, DC. Periodic travel to sub-Saharan Africa required.
