Policy Analyst (Federal)

The Federal Policy Analyst works to advance the Policy Center's efforts to monitor and inform federal policy, coordinate and draft federal project requests, conduct research and assist in writing policy briefs and other materials, and contribute to the overall work of the ZERO TO THREE Policy Center.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Government Relations and Senior Policy Analyst to formulate ZERO TO THREE's policy positions and strategy on a range of issues and legislative initiatives, with particular emphasis given to federal legislation and initiatives relating to the Court Teams for Maltreated Infants and Toddlers project.
  • Manage ZERO TO THREE's Congressional project request process, including researching, drafting, editing, and tracking special project requests submitted through the annual federal appropriations process.
  • Conduct outreach to and solicit support from key contacts and informants in the field in order to advance federal legislation and initiatives relating to the Court Teams for Maltreated Infants and Toddlers project.
  • Support the Senior Policy Analyst in tracking other relevant federal legislation.
  • Update bill summaries for an online database system.
  • Draft federal legislative updates for a bi-weekly electronic newsletter and periodic action alerts for a network of professionals.
  • Assist in the research, development, formatting and updating of policy briefs, testimony and other written materials.
  • Assist in the planning of events, briefings, meetings and conference calls to further the federal policy agenda.
  • Respond to Hill requests for technical assistance.
  • Garner visibility for ZTT and infant and toddler policy issues through presentations at conferences and meetings.
  • Draft correspondence, meeting summaries, and other materials as assigned.
  • Assist with the development of power point presentations.
  • Serve as an alternate for coalition meetings, hearings and briefings.
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, compiling materials for meetings, and faxing.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and reports to funders
  • Contribute to the overall work of the Policy Center.

 

Skills, Experience and Education

  • At least 2 years of related experience and a Bachelors Degree ,or a Masters Degree in a related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including writing, editing and proofreading.    
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing and urgent responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Dependability and experience working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays.

Education

Bachelor's degree in related field. Master's degree in public policy, social work, early childhood development or related field preferred.
