Part-Time State Government Affairs Analyst (Grant Funded)

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation's leading advocacy organization for children's health, has a part-time opportunity for a professional to provide strategic guidance to our client groups in implementing AAP policy objectives at the state level. This role will monitor state government initiatives and trends, and develop advocacy resources to advance related tobacco prevention initiatives.
Prime responsibilities include the management and tracking of tobacco advocacy efforts at the state and community level within the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) funded sites, non-CPPW funded sites, AAP chapters, Fellows, and other AAP entities. Will also conduct outreach to AAP chapters to inform them of tobacco prevention policy opportunities as well as participate significantly in the development of Web-based policy tools related to state tobacco policy.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in
public policy, political science, public health, or related field. Three to five
years experience in state government affairs, legislative advocacy, or
association work required. Experience with health and medical issues is
preferred. Additional skills include solid analytical and
comprehension skills; excellent
written and verbal communication skills with presentation experience preferred;
familiarity with computer database functions and knowledge of Web resource
development required. Some travel and weekend work required. Need to be able to
work 20 hours a week.
