The American Society of Anesthesiologists ("ASA") is an educational, research and scientific association of physicians organized to raise and maintain the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and improve patient care.
Since its founding in 1905, the Society's achievements have made it an important voice in American Medicine and the foremost advocate for all patients who require anesthesia or relief from pain.
ASA is looking for one full-time PAC Political Coordinator to join its Office of Governmental and Legal Affairs, in the Washington, DC location.
Position Summary:
Manage the day-to-day administrative
functions of ASAPAC and its related political activities in advancing
the ASA political agenda to support the election and reelection of
friends
of anesthesiology to the U.S. House of Representative and U.S. Senate
and where appropriate, elected state offices. Management of ASAPAC
disbursement
to lobbyists and ASA key contacts. Assist ASAPAC Director in all aspects
of the federal legislative advocacy with emphasis on strategy, member
relations, and direct lobbying. Work collaboratively with the ASA
Washington
and Park Ridge staff and appropriate committees to promote teamwork
through leadership and advance the interests of anesthesiologists in
relation to legislation, regulation, and private-payer issues and
activities.
Job Responsibilities:
This position is not static and will be revised as the need of the organization's business evolves.
Major Activity: Manage ASAPAC disbursement to lobbyists and ASA key contacts.
Major Activity: Provide analysis of ASAPAC contributions and disbursement data.
Major Activity: Manage ASAPAC solicitation efforts.
Major Activity: Monitor Congressional, Senate, and relevant state candidates and campaigns.
Major Activity: Provide administrative support in the management of the ASAPAC Executive Board.
Major Activity: Develop reports that identify and prioritize policy-related issues that impact the ASA and its members.
Major Activity: Assist ASAPAC Director in providing education to legislators, regulators, and key staff members regarding the ASA position on relevant issues.
Major Activity: Provide administrative support of ASAPAC Director to establish and maintain liaison with the key congressional staff, personnel at federal agencies, medical specialty societies, anesthesiology subspecialty groups, patient groups, and other organizations responsible for and interested in policies and programs that affect the practice of anesthesiology.
Major Activity: Assist ASAPAC Director in drafting responses to inquiries from the Congress, government agencies or other organizations as well as individuals and members of the ASA.
Minor Activity: Other duties may be assignedEducation & Training:
- Bachelor's degree in political science or other relevant field required.
Work Experience:
- 2 - 3 years experience in working on Capitol Hill or for federal or state campaigns.
- Basic knowledge of the Federal Election Commission regulations, legislative process grassroots political action, fundraising, PAC, or campaign committee operations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Will spend the majority of the workday sitting, computing, and talking. Proofreading of materials for an extended period of time. Required infrequent lifting in the 5 - 15 pounds range. Work may be frequently interrupted. The work environment consists of an office environment with light noise. Some travel required
