Media Relations Manager

The Media Relations Manager is actively engaged in and provides support for a broad array of media relations activities.  The position's primary responsibility is to manage media requests and ensure they are fielded in a timely and professional manner.  In addition, the Manager will manage distribution of news releases and statements, prepare media events, draft materials and help coordinate media activities with relevant AWEA teams in support of the industry's goals.      

Essential functions of the Media Relations Manager are:  to respond to media-related inquiries and field calls timely; draft news releases, statements, letters to editor and articles; manage preparation of media events, including events associated with AWEA workshops, conferences, and preparation of press kits; oversee maintenance of press log; manage distribution of AWEA releases and statements to targeted media, AWEA members and stakeholders; ensure coordination and updates  with AWEA PR firm; work with Public Affairs team to update and maintain messaging points for AWEA and industry spokespeople; maintain communications-related contacts with AWEA member companies to efficiently respond to inquiries; manage online updates for PA department sites on awea.org; assist in disseminating items from AWEA newsletters, Wind Energy Weekly and Windletter to reporters; develop and update publications as needed, understand economic policy and other issues affecting the wind energy industry and market, or possess the ability and desire to learn about those issues; experience in working with broadcast media operations.

Qualifications:  B.A. or B.S. preferred; master's degree in communications, policy or related field is a plus.  At least four years of progressive experience in a media, media relations, or communications position.   A professional with broadcast media experience is strongly desired.
