The National Student Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization, is the nation's trusted source for post-secondary and secondary student degree, diploma and enrollment verification. The Media and Public Relations Specialist develops and manages the public relations and media outreach programs for the National Student Clearinghouse and its Research Center. This position will play an important role in enhancing and protecting the company's public image and reputation. Public relations and media outreach efforts produced by the Media and Public Relations Specialist will support strategic communications objectives, increase awareness of the Clearinghouse among the press and key constituents, and help cultivate positive business outcomes.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Create and execute tactical, integrated public relations plans
Create, maintain, and help implement crisis communications plan
Research and write press releases, press kits, media alerts, articles, case studies, etc.
Develop and nurture solid relationships with key media contacts
Build and maintain media contact database
Pitch and place articles in relevant news, business, and industry media
Respond to press inquiries
Solicit and coordinate press interviews and speaking opportunities for key company personnel
Coordinate media training for executives and other key company personnel
Develop, monitor, and update social media placements
Update, maintain, and distribute Clearinghouse press clippings
Oversee vendors/agencies involved in media outreach and public relations efforts
Write, edit, and proofread other types of communications materials
Perform other duties, as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications
5-7 years of public relations experience
2-3 years experience using social media (e.g., Linked In, Twitter, etc.) as part of a public relations campaign
5 or more years using PR Newswire and/or other wire service
Experience pitching major media and securing national placements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong portfolio of writing and media outreach samples, including pitch letters, press releases, press clippings, articles, speeches, case studies, and white papers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Proficiency in using Lexis-Nexis or other online research resource
Experience with public relations management software (e.g., Vocus or other) helpful
Higher education and/or non-profit media outreach/communications helpful
