Manager/Senior Manager for Government Relations

InterAction is the largest coalition of U.S.-based international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) focused on the world's poor and most vulnerable people. Collectively, InterAction's 188 members work in every developing country. Members meet people halfway in expanding opportunities and supporting gender equality in education, health care, agriculture, small business, and other areas.

The U.S. public shows its support for this work through direct contributions to InterAction members. InterAction leverages the impact of this private support by advocating for the expansion of U.S. government investments and by insisting that policies and programs are responsive to the realities of the world's poorest and most vulnerable populations.

About the Position:
Position Title:
Manager/Senior Manager for Government Relations
Position Type: Full-time, long-term
Location: Washington, DC
Reporting to: Senior Director for Public Policy and External Relations
(Policy and Communications Team)

Responsibilities:
Coordinate outreach to the Executive Branch, facilitating contacts and dialog between senior-level government officials and issue-specialized InterAction colleagues and helping to open new opportunities for promotion of InterAction's public policy goals on issues such as foreign assistance reform, humanitarian assistance, climate change, food security, and civil-military relations.

Help develop and coordinate an over-arching executive branch outreach strategy, working with InterAction's senior leadership.

Assist in development of policy positions across teams within InterAction and management of cross team initiatives and projects that directly support InterAction's policy and advocacy goals.

Gather information on changes in State, USAID, MCC, OGAC, Defense, and USDA policies and practices related to international development and humanitarian assistance.

Produce timely analyses of foreign assistance-related issues for use in advocacy and for InterAction members.


Candidate Requirements/Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of U.S. foreign assistance content and decision-making.

Seven to ten years experience working on foreign assistance related issues, preferably with a federal agency or with an organization that implements foreign-assistance funded projects.

A network of contacts in the foreign assistance and foreign policy-making sphere.

Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, multi-task, set priorities, adapt to change, solve problems, and work with a wide variety of personality types.

Superior speaking, writing, and interpersonal diplomatic skills.

Master's (or equivalent) degree in a field of study directly related to international development.
