The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Manager, State Affairs in our Albany, New York office.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 

The position is responsible for assisting the State Affairs department with internal panel, client, and member communication to further the advocacy agendas of the American Chemistry Council (ACC).  The position is also responsible for maintaining and enhancing ACC’s on-line state legislative/regulatory tracking system website--cqstatetrak.com, providing timely reports and policy feedback on priority issues, as well as serving as a liaison between ACC product panels and the State Affairs department.   The position reports directly to the Director, State Affairs.  

Other key duties and responsibilities of the position include assisting in the development of grassroots and coalition building efforts on behalf of ACC and industry issues; lobbying members of legislature and other holders of public office as well as building strategic and long-term relationships; advocating policies favorable to ACC to member of legislature and other holders of public office, for purposes of persuading them to support ACC positions;  responding to member and public inquires, including providing substantive answers and materials, as needed, or making referrals to the appropriate ACC resource; and monitoring and analyzing emerging legislative and regulatory issues affecting the ACC’s members.

Required qualifications include Bachelor’s degree or a minimum four years related work experience, experience working in a government relations or trade association environment preferred.; familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes on a state level; knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., word, excel, power point) and internet research skills; experience working with databases, preferably legislative tracking services.
