Manager, Political Action Committee & Compliance

Function of the Position:

This is a professional position on the Government and Community Relations team responsible for the development and management of ArchiPAC (the AIA’s federal political action committee), PAC donor retention and recognition strategies, PAC and federal lobbying compliance, peer to peer network building, political fundraising, data management, and other political outreach or project management as assigned. The incumbent also serves as liaison and advisor to AIA state somponents on state PAC fundraising and strategy. 

    Job Duties

    • Manage ArchiPAC administration including data maintenance, rigorous and accurate accounting of receipts and disbursements, preparation and filing of FEC reports, creation and distribution of regular internal reports, and related responsibilities.

    • Develop and implement fundraising goals and programs to expand ArchiPAC fundraising and member participation including programs implementing and expanding peer-to-peer fundraising methods.

    • Identify and utilize modern fundraising practices and policies, including strategies related to online donations, email, direct mail, and telephone solicitation techniques.

    • Support the ArchiPAC Steering Committee and the ArchiPAC peer-to-peer fundraising group.

    • Keep informed of current federal and state campaign laws, issues, and trends, and advise components and colleagues accordingly.

    • Prepare AIA federal lobbying reports (LD-203) and be knowledgeable and up-to-date pn lobbying ethics rules.

    • Craft and implement ArchiPAC strategic development and contributor recognition plans, with appropriate supporting materials, to achieve fundraising and activity goals. 

    • Advise state components on state PAC fundraising to help state PACs create, maintain, and grow their efforts, e.g. joint national and state fundraising efforts.

    • Serve as ArchiPAC Treasurer of record with the Federal Election Commission, including recordkeeping and reporting responsibilities such as correctness and timeliness of filings and legality of PAC actions and decisions.

    • Prepare PAC communications including upkeep of the PAC website and creation/ dissemination of PAC newsletter.

    • Develop and oversee special projects that support department objectives to build awareness for the Institute’s policy positions and community programs, particularly as they relate to political activities and the Institute’s DesignVote program, which educates AIA members on key industry issues and aims to get architects more involved in campaigns and elections.

      KSAs and Training and Experience:

      Superior analytical, writing, speaking, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

      Ability to balance big-picture goals and attention to detail and manage multiple priorities and responsibilities. Sound judgment and initiative to work independently. Strong organizational skills.

      Commitment to produce excellent work according to deadlines and budgets; creative, flexible, and high energy, including the ability to work non-routine hours. Demonstrated success of working in a team environment, coordinating and communicating with colleagues and others, conveying ideas with tact and diplomacy, and resolving problems collaboratively.

      Experience working with multiple constituencies, such as national boards and state and local organizations, associations, and volunteers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and experience using Aristotle or other government relations/FEC-compliant software. 

        Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience, including 2-3 years of demonstrated success with political action committee development and management, including experience handling all aspects of administration and reporting. The individual must have experience in campaign and legislative processes and command of FEC regulations. Robust fundraising experience a must.
