Manager – Public Affairs

TenCate, a multinational protective materials manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced government relations professional to serve as its Manager of Public Affairs (“Manager”), who will be based in Washington, DC. This person will work closely with the VP of Public & Government Relations (P&GR) to fulfill TenCate’s legislative and public relations objectives. This role requires frequent collaboration with internal corporate teams, government officials, media, external business partners, consultants, industry coalitions, and third-party advocacy groups. The Manager will make recommendations to the VP of P&GR on strategy to promote TenCate’s brand and legislative goals. 

Responsibilities

         The Manager will represent TenCate’s interests to Congressional and Executive Branch officials, and prepare brand-awareness and position materials, while also coordinating activities both internally and with external support groups. They will be expected to continually identify opportunities and risks in this realm, based on analysis and information-gathering. 

         The Manager will have responsibilities for the newly-forming TenCate PAC. This includes developing recommendations to the VP of P&GR on strategy, coordinating timelines, managing internal communications, and carrying-out related duties for the PAC.  

         The Manager will lead the development of messaging materials (to include brochures, ads, images, press releases, videos, media outreach, and websites) for TenCate (USA)’s Washington, DC audience, and other audiences as needed. 

         The Manager will support coalition-building objectives through targeted networking and cooperation with trade and advocacy groups on Capitol Hill outreach. 

         The Manager will research, track and report on specific policy and business issues for the VP of P&GR and other business units. 

Qualifications

         The position requires a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in Congressional offices, legislative affairs, or government relations.  

         Working knowledge of federal government policy and the legislative process is required.

         The Manager must demonstrate effective advocacy skills, strong interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships within TenCate, with external business partners, and with potential coalition partners and advocacy targets.  In addition, strong research, analytical and writing skills will be important.

         Finely tuned organization and time management skills are needed for the planning, coordination and implementation of multiple activities simultaneously. The position requires a self-starter, who is able to complete their objectives independently. Project management experience is desirable. 

Benefits

         Compensation will be commensurate with experience and discussed further during the interview process. Range = $60-85K.
