JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
This position supports the strategy, management and execution of Blackboard's public relations and media outreach activities. Working closely with Blackboard's Director of Public Relations and internal departments, clients and partners, the Manager of Public Relations will support message creation, press release writing and editing, press conferences, media training, media tours, speaker and awards programs, and the coordination of thought leadership campaigns across the education and technology sectors.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote positive visibility, awareness and coverage of Blackboard products and services through the support of vital relationships with technology and education media
- Support the execution of annual public relations plan including targeted activity for each of Blackboard's vertical business units
- Assist in drafting and editing compelling press announcements in support of company objectives, press releases, and other official statements
- Lead Blackboard's speaker and awards program to highlight Blackboard leaders, partners and initiatives
- Work closely with marketing leads throughout the company and with Blackboard's external public relations agencies
- Help lead company's blog, new media and social media efforts
- Assist in coordination of media-related events and programs
JOB REQUIREMENTS
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Four to six years of public relations experience
- Experience in supporting and managing PR programs and initiatives
- Experience working directly with members of the media
- Excellent project management skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Solid work ethic, attentive to detail, and strong time management skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communications skills (written samples required)
- Bachelor's Degree required. Focus in Communications, Marketing, Public Affairs and/or English preferred.
Preferred
- Experience with media systems (Cision/Vocus; Nexis/Factiva; PRNewswire, etc.)
- Industry experience with enterprise software, education industry.
