Manager - Marketing/Communications

Reports to: Executive Director

The manager of marketing and communications (MCM) is a member of the management team and responsible for identifying opportunities, developing strategy, and managing the execution of internal and external public relations programs to protect and enhance WCRI's brand and reputation. The MCM must be able to think strategically and provide thoughtful counsel to WCRI managers. This hands-on role also develops and executes marketing and communications initiatives to grow WCRI revenue and execute on objectives. S/he is responsible for marketing operations, communications, events, websites, media relations, and lead generation. Brand-recognition, revenue growth, and impact of WCRI studies on major public policy debates are the ultimate performance metrics for this position.

The Marketing/Communications Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of all WCRI marketing and communications initiatives. One of the primary goals of the position is to maintain and enhance brand integrity and visibility of WCRI as a trusted source of information on workers' compensation and the research leader on workers' compensation public policy issues as seen by the media, policymakers and diverse stakeholders in that community in the US and abroad.

WCRI seeks an energetic and innovative communications professional to take a relatively basic communications program of a very successful internationally-recognized public policy think-tank to the next level.

Key Responsibility Areas

1. Manage the marketing communications function

* Promote the WCRI brand:

* Develop brand-focused messages and communication strategies

* Develop marketing materials and strategies

* Develop and disseminate study-specific messages and communication strategies to enhance the impact of studies

* Write and disseminate short summaries of WCRI studies for non-technical audiences

* Coach research project leaders in developing high-value presentations of study findings

2. Administer the WCRI Website:

* Manage overall positioning, content, and messaging

* Track and analyze patterns of use to identify customer needs, sales and impact leads, and product improvement opportunities

* Project management and supervise any web consulting activities 

3. Plan and execute in-person and virtual events to promote WCRI and disseminate WCRI studies

4. Manage relations with the media 

5. Handle communications to customers and customer inquiries

6. Develop executive communications and employee communications initiatives 

7. Partner with program managers and project leaders on new product development and product improvement, including innovations to integrate new technologies into WCRI products and product delivery

8. Develop and manage budgets

Qualifications: 

* Proven writing, speaking and problem-solving skills and demonstrated success in developing and executing communications impacting an organization's reputation

* Ability to see the big picture - the external public policy, customer and competitive landscape and identify opportunities for and threats to WCRI positioning 

* Ability to translate findings of technical research to meet the information needs of non-technical public policy and business decision-makers

* Ability to write crisply and effectively for senior decision-makers 

* Knowledge of how to use the web, social media, and emerging technologies to enhance revenues and impact of WCRI studies

* Knowledge and experience with media relations practices and relationships with outside firms 

* Excellent organization and project management skills

* A team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to external relationship building for WCRI 

* Results oriented with a passion for creative problem-solving

* Proficiency with MS Office applications 

* Track record of grabbing the ball and running with it

* Interest in the subject matter 

* Ability to travel
