Manager, Issues Management and Crisis Communications

Alcoa is in search of a Manager, Issues Management and Crisis Communications. The position is located within our Corporate Affairs/Media Relations department and is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The position entails ensuring that Alcoa has protocols established to deal effectively with special issues and crises. The successful candidate will improve communications within our plants and global business units by identifying, developing and working with field communicators and sharing tools and techniques, supporting the objectives of the Employee Relations Council through effective communications tactics and tools. This individual will also raise Alcoa's media profile through the execution of corporate and media relations plan

Major Responsibilities:

Support Alcoa's corporate media relations objectives by working to develop and execute media relations strategies designed to raise the company's profile among key audiences

Collaborate and coordinate with Group Communications Directors to provide all necessary communications support and services for the Groups, Business Units and plants on a global basis.

Develop and recommend communication strategy, as well as provide support and training for global communications that target groups (such as union employees, U.S. employees, supervisors, retirees, etc.). As part of this, work on creative, cost effective solutions, either saving money or avoiding costs.

Design and develop all labor-related communications with the Alcoa Employee Relations Council (ERC).

Develop and recommend communication strategy, as well as provide support for global corporate-wide programs that affect all levels of the organization as well as business units (such as EHS, ABS, DI).

Skills:

Ability to manage concurrent projects involving different business and resource units, messages and countries/cultures.

Ability and confidence to ask challenging questions to all levels of the organization, provide candid feedback and sound business advice, and keep information confidential.

Highly developed communication/writing skills.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations, Journalism or English

Minimum 10 years of experience in communications (internal, external, business, media, etc.)

Minimum 10 years of experience in a corporate business environment

Experience communicating around labor negotiations
