The Manager of Government Affairs is a full time position reporting directly to the Executive Director, Global Government Affairs in New York.
The Manager will assist global management in
formulating U.S. Government Affairs strategies and positions to:
(a) counter adverse legislative
developments and
(b) pro-actively
propose / support helpful legislation, and create a network of resources to
monitor and obtain information early in the process on proposed legislative
activities. This includes all legislation that could affect Avon (including
legislation aimed at direct selling, CFT products and corporate governance),
including working with trade associations and other companies' government
affairs personnel on issues of common interest.
The goals are to preserve Avon's ability to conduct its
business in a manner consistent with its desired method of operations, and to
provide guidance to Avon's North America Management and government affairs
personnel to ensure:
o Protection and preservation of independent contractor
status,
o Legitimacy of multi-level marketing in all jurisdictions,
o
Open/flexible direct selling channel,
o Minimization of tax liability
(including customs' duties), and
o Timely opening / expansion of new markets
or existing markets.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
- Advanced degree in political science, communications or
business discipline preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of related governmental and political experience.
- Understanding of political and
lobbying processes in the U.S. at both state and federal levels
