Manager, Federal Relations

This professional position assists the Sr. Director, Federal Relations in planning, coordinating and implementing the AIA's federal legislative and regulatory agenda and programs and representing the AIA before members of Congress, Congressional staff, Executive Branch staff and officials and outside organizations. The incumbent will exercise significant discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of legislative significance to AIA members.

KSAs and Training and Experience:

Familiarity and broad range of documented experience with the Federal Legislative and Regulatory processes. Proven experience in promoting public policy interests, including using direct lobbying to advance agendas. Knowledge of the Congressional and Federal agency structure in D.C. and a demonstrated ability to network on behalf of the profession. Knowledge of policy issues that affect the architectural profession. Ability to creatively promote architecture-related interests. Hill experience preferred.

Demonstrated ability to provide cogent and logical presentations both orally and in writing. Experience speaking extemporaneously before groups to inform and persuade.

Must develop or possess ability to work with multiple constituencies, such as a national board and state and local chapters. Demonstrated ability to listen to concerns, communicate diplomatically, and resolve problems collaboratively among members, collateral organizations/agencies and the AIA staff.

Bachelor's degree in Political Science or related field required, and at least three years experience working with the legislative or political process.
