Manager of Advocacy & Membership Development

About OWA: The Oregon Winegrowers Association (OWA) is a voluntary membership-based organization that provides legislative and regulatory advocacy and lobbying for its Oregon wine industry members. The OWA provides a unified voice on key industry issues before state and federal government agencies, legislative/regulatory bodies and related associations. The OWA works to develop a positive and favorable environment for Oregon's winery owners and grape growers.

Job Description: The Oregon Winegrowers Association in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a dynamic individual to join its Advocacy & Membership team.  This position is responsible for creating an environment for success on industry public policy related matters and will spearhead recruitment efforts for new members.

Advocacy: Duties will include developing a robust and highly effective advocacy strategy on behalf of the Association's members and in concert with its lobbying firm; maintaining an active state-level program and grassroots network to support the organization's public policy priorities and legislative agenda; support Federal initiatives as appropriate in coordination with other domestic wine regions; and leveraging the Association's resources to advance the group's agenda by implementing strategic messaging as part of its advocacy campaign.
Membership:  Duties will include active recruitment efforts; establishing a system for developing and tracking membership leads; and creating strategies to engage current members.

Communication: Duties will include illustrating the value and benefits of membership; and communicating compelling position papers, newsletter updates and presentations on key advocacy and regulatory initiatives affecting the industry,

The position requires excellent communication skills, creativity, assertiveness, enthusiasm, intelligence, good relationship-building skills, and a genuine interest in public affairs and the wine industry.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be an excellent communicator (written and verbal), highly organized, results oriented, and deadline driven, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully manage and navigate a diverse range of stakeholders. Critical skills also include the ability to think strategically, track and sustain accountability, utilize technology and software for presentations and educational programs, inspire trust and solve problems.  The successful candidate will be a politically astute, self-directed consensus builder who values teamwork and sets high performance standards personally and for others.

Experience: A bachelor's degree and five or more years of progressive and relevant advocacy, public affairs or grassroots campaign experience required. Familiarity with wine industry is a plus.

Compensation:  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
