Legislative Assistant
Obadal,
Filler, MacLeod & Klein, PLC, an Alexandria law firm that provides
government affairs and management services to trade associations, seeks a
highly-motivated professional with legislative experience to serve as manager of
government affairs for the firm's trade association clients.
The ideal
candidate will have:
Excellent oral and written communications skills
(including experience preparing magazine and newsletter articles, congressional
briefing documents, grassroots materials, legislative correspondence, and making
presentations on policy issues);
At least two years legislative
experience (with a congressional office, trade association, professional
society, executive branch department/agency, etc.);
A bachelors degree
(advanced degree in government, politics, economics or a related subject (other
than law) preferred);
Background or interest in transportation
policy.
Duties will include:
Creating and editing content for
client publications (newsletters, monthly magazines);
Developing
materials to support direct and grassroots lobbying activities (letters to
Congress, briefing documents, etc.);
Preparing materials to support media
outreach (press releases, articles, etc.);
Supporting contact with
external audiences (association grassroots, media, Congress);
Monitoring
Congress, administration, and media to identify threats and opportunities for
the firm and clients;
Triaging and coordinating responses to media
requests;
Supporting attorneys in preparation for congressional hearings
and other public appearances;
Attending lobbying and coalition
meetings;
Supporting political fundraising
initiatives;
Supervising interns; and
Maintaining government
affairs content on client Web sites.
Position will require occasional
domestic travel. Competitive salary will be commensurate with experience.
