Legislative Analyst

The Legislative Analyst will assist the Director, Government Relations and Director, Federal Affairs in development of communications to AAMC staff, constituents, congressional officials and staff; represent AAMC positions to Congressional staff; requires active participation in issue-specific coalitions and information sharing networks; requires public speaking.

Responsibilities:

Work with the Director, Government Relations, Director, Federal Affairs and OGR legislative staff to monitor activities of Congress and relevant Federal Executive Branch representatives primarily related to Medicare, Medicaid payment and targeted state-level initiatives affecting constituents; track and analyze legislation in various stages of the legislative process and assist in monitoring and summarizing Congressional committee activity including attending hearings and briefings.

Assist in preparation and dissemination of information on complex issues; help in preparation of legislative updates, hearing summaries, testimony, official statements, letters, position papers and newsletter articles.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with congressional staff.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with health organizations with respect to physician and hospital payment and other clinical issues.

Bachelor's degree, master's degree a plus with a minimum 2 years related work experience on Medicare and Medicaid issues in a Congressional or government affairs office.
