Issues Management Director

We are looking for an Issues Management Director to work in Corporate Affairs in our offices in Wayzata, MN. 

The Issues Management Director is a senior level position focused on analysis and positioning on issues in Cargill's external environment that can affect the company's license and freedom to operate and the company's repatriation and profitability.  Issues will be largely global in nature.  The position will also involve project management responsibilities. 

The position works under the leader of the issues management group.  Issues work is largely prioritized by the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team.  Issues will be of considerable importance to the company.   Candidate must have skills to conduct quick analysis and to sort out the importance of information.  Work must have a line of sight to Cargill's customers, businesses, and reputation.  The position has a broad scope of interaction within Cargill - from Cargill Leadership Team (CLT) members, Platform and Business Unit leaders, Functional Unit leaders and others, as well as colleagues in Corporate Affairs.  Externally, with national and state trade associations, legislative organizations, elected officials, NGOs.

Responsibilities:

50% - Issue analysis - conduct extensive analysis of issues in Cargill's external environment.  This requires understanding of Cargill's business profile, the external stakeholder community, and the public policy setting process.  Analysis will serve as the basis for Cargill's positioning on the issues. Writing - crafting issue background documents and issue papers. Written materials will often synthesize complex issues, requiring sophisticated analytical skills.  The ability to comprehend economic, social, and geopolitical considerations will be required.

20% - Cross functional and BU connectivity - involving relevant business units and functions in analysis and positioning so that the corporation may have all the necessary information to fully consider.  The ability to foster understanding among internal stakeholders, and to build bridges toward common ground is essential.

30% - Project management - using Cargill's processes, manage department and corporate projects.  Projects will most likely be related to corporate strategy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, International Relations, Government Relations or related field
  • 5 or more years business experience, preferably in a global company
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Critical thinking, dealing with ambiguity
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to build relationships across the organization
  • Ability to move from broad to narrow scope and vice versa
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate at all levels of the organization and cross-function/platform
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, results-oriented, resilient
  • Strong strategic thinking, prioritization, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
