Head of Federal Government Affairs

Based in Washington, DC, the Managing Director ("MD"), Head of Federal Government Affairs, will be responsible for leading and managing Citigroup's government affairs program at the U.S. federal level. He/She will be charged with helping ensure that the company's policy and government relations activities are focused on protecting and enhancing Citigroup's business interests and reputation. The MD will strategically position the company in the dialogue regarding relevant business and financial services issues in the public policy arena in Washington. The MD will be a partner with, and counsel to, the company's senior executives and business teams, ensuring that these leaders understand the evolving government and public policy landscape, and potential impacts of government policies, laws and regulations.

Some of the specific responsibilities will include:

- Create and implement an innovative strategy to lead Government Relations initiatives at the federal level, including developing and implementing tactics to ensure that Citigroup's business interests are advanced or protected.

- Develop a strategic plan for the company and its executives to play a role with policy makers, including cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with key influencers who can affect the outcome of various initiatives important to Citigroup's business objectives.

- Develop and implement a plan for the company to build and maintain deep relationships with the relevant committees in both the House and Senate, and policy makers in the Administration.

- Ensure that Citigroup is viewed as a constructive thought leader on relevant issues, as appropriate.

- Work with the appropriate business teams, legal and company leadership to develop policy positions on issues of interest to the company, and the related legislative and regulatory tactics to advance and achieve those positions.

- Coordinate with the legal department to ensure that regulatory advocacy and the legislative strategies and programs are consistent and supportive of each other.

- Proactively engage/advise internal senior management to increase awareness of all potential public policy issues of concern to Citigroup.
For this critical role, Citigroup seeks an individual with significant experience in public policy and U.S. federal government relations. He/She must be a highly effective strategicthinker and tactical implementer with a history of delivering results in the area of government affairs. In light of significant changes affecting the financial services industry in the coming years, the individual should be substantive and adept at helping assist the company's legal department communicate and advocate effectively in the regulatory environment. It is highly desirable for the new MD to have previous knowledge of/experience with financial services issues.

Partnering and coordinating closely with the company's senior executives, business leaders, and legal and compliance teams, the MD will assess public policy issues and develop and implement comprehensive strategic and tactical legislative and advocacy plans to protect and advance the interests of the company

He/She will possess established relationships with policymakers, opinion leaders and others in Washington

In addition to the critical, externally focused skills, the new MD must be capable of being a success internally. He/She must have the organizational acumen necessary to thrive in a cross-functional role in the company. The new MD must have good management and leadership skills.
