Governmental Affairs Manager

SCI is currently looking for an experienced Governmental Affairs Manager for our corporate office in Houston, TX. In this role, the Governmental Affairs Manager will direct communication on legislation and regulation to internal contacts, mobilize grassroots involvement at state levels, and oversee all proposals of legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Manage various federal, state, and local governmental activities for the company

Review, analyze, and communicate proposed legislation/regulations to appropriate internal and external personnel

Manage contract lobbyists, as needed in various states

Communicate with contract lobbyists, elected officials and their staff members, interest groups and state agencies to convey the company position on issues

Work with field personnel in developing appropriate strategies for specific governmental activities

Manage departmental administrative functions, including SCI's Political Action Committee (SCI/PAC)

Communicate final passage of legislation/regulations to the appropriate personnel

When needed assist various SCI Departments with appropriate responses to inquiries regarding legislative/regulatory issues

Assist in developing grassroots plans for outreach externally and internally including drafting messaging, monitoring results and modifying plans as needed

 

Requirements:

A bachelor's degree is required; preferable in business, Political Science or Public Relations

Must have a minimum of five-years experience in government affairs and proven corporate experience in implementing and managing proactive legislative and regulatory programs that require effective communication and coordination

Understand multiple state legislative process as well local government

Be able to build and maintain internal and external relationships

Must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Knowledge in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel

Able to travel frequently and for extensive periods, and work long and irregular hours

Experience working in corporate government affairs or an association is preferred
