Summary of Position
PMI is seeking a seasoned Government Relations Manager to plan, develop, maintain, and monitor a strong positive governmental, political and community relationship network within the federal government. Key outcomes include increased access, building awareness of PMI and incorporating project management, expanding relationships, gaining acceptance of standards and certification, and raising the profile of project management as a discipline. Serve as a link and resource in bridging effective relationships and strategic alliances between PMI departments and government entities. Utilize appropriate metrics and established organization goals to measure progress and coordinate the prioritization of issues so that PMI can have the greatest impact on policy issues.
Create and cultivate alignment and development of relationships to assure market understanding, customer satisfaction and mutually beneficial relationships that progress the profession overall, support the expansion and enhancement of the body of knowledge, promote advocacy and advance the strategic plan. Assure market penetration, progress, and positive development of programs, products and services aligned with organization and operational strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, international relations, law or other relevant field. Master of Business Administration or related degree strongly preferred.
- At least ten years of progressively responsible management level experience in government relations; business development; or global market development with demonstrated deliverables toward broadening markets; research and development; and related business development activities.
- Strong relationship management skills, including the ability to work with individuals in prominent and influential positions across diverse sectors and cultures.
- Strong listening and data collection skills.
- Proven planning and relationship management in building long range and long term actions and relationships.
- Successful negotiation of agreements for services or relationships that benefit or align with an organization's objectives. Ability to develop exit strategies.
- Ability to see the big picture and develop long range strategies while attending to details
- Knowledge, experience, and ability to travel, domestically and internationally, including weekends and/or holidays. Must be available to travel; 10- 20% with trips of up to one week in duration.
