This is a significant opportunity that will allow the incumbent to gain an in depth understanding of state and local governments & policy makers throughout states in the Southern portion of TD Bank's footprint. He/she is an effective planner & advocate with the highest level of integrity, excellent judgment and discretion, and demonstrated understanding of the workings of US state & local governments.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to protecting & enhancing TD Bank's interests with state & local governments within the Bank's Southern footprint region. The Southern Deputy will oversee the development & execution of political, legislative and regulatory programs and strategies within the region & advocate for favorable outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitors, analyzes & prioritizes emerging state and local regulatory and legislative issues affecting TD Bank and its business units and, through the GR structure, interacts with middle & senior level management across the organization to determine the impact of such issues on the Bank.
- Makes recommendations on policy positions to the Head of State & Local Government Affairs and to other executives, including regional presidents and, participates in TD Bank's GR structure to ensure corporate alignment on issues.
- Creates & executes advocacy strategies to favorably influence legislation and regulations educates public officials and staff, and participates in industry lobbying activities develops grass roots advocacy programs that leverage TD Bank's executives & employees throughout the Bank's footprint and, coordinates regional presidents, the Bank's GR function, communications, and other corporate functions to achieve state and local policy objectives.
- In cooperation with TD Bank's regional presidents builds relationships & serves as TD Bank's principal point of contact with state & local executive, legislative and regulatory officials.
- Elevates political & economic profile of TD Bank operations with key local and state public official's plans and participates in meetings and other events that build relationships & goodwill between TD Bank and state and local government officials.
- Working with regional presidents, the Head of State & Local Government Affairs and other Bank Executives, coordinates with and provides direction to state trade associations of which the Bank is a member, to ensure that TD Bank's policy objectives are incorporated into their policy positions & policy-making initiatives.
- In cooperation with TD Bank's regional presidents, the General Counsel, the Head of State & Local Government Affairs and other Bank executives, selects and supervises the activities of state contract lobbyists, attorneys and other consultants hired to represent the Bank's interests with state & local government officials.
- Supports the development & growth of TD Bank's coordinated political giving program under the Head of State and Local Government Affairs' supervision and, in cooperation with the Bank's regional presidents implements the program at the state & local level.
- Maintains a database of all state & local officials with whom TD Bank interacts.
- In cooperation with TD Bank's General Counsel ensures that the Bank's government affairs activities at the state & local level comply with all laws & regulations that relate to such activities.
Education Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree

- Ability to research & analyze issues related to governmental actions & proposals
- Ability to communicate & work effectively with a broad range of government officials at all levels
