While the position is located in our Washington office, they will report to the Communications Director at our Schaumburg, IL headquarters. This key position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day communication needs of the GRD, including media relations and managing the AVMA's Congressional Advocacy Network grassroots program. Duties include researching and writing a variety of communications materials for professional and public audiences, including press releases, online content, issue papers, backgrounders, op-eds, speeches, Congressional testimony and other materials, as necessary, on tight deadlines. Will also assist in the development, preparation and execution of press conferences and other media events, and ensure website, social media and other multimedia content is relevant, timely and user-friendly.
BS/BA in English, Journalism, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years experience in government affairs or public relations including 1-3 years of management experience is required. Previous experience working with public affairs media is also required, Capital Hill experience is a plus. Must have exceptional communications skills and strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, including web writing and oversight experience. Must understand how new media can be used to advance advocacy initiatives. Strong computer skills are expected. Some travel required. Application deadline is 6/14/10.
