Government Relations & Advocacy Coordinator

The American Urological Association is the premier physician member association for the advancement of urologic patient care. AUA is actively recruiting a Government Relations and Advocacy Coordinator. This position is located in the AUA's Washington, D.C. office in the Hall of States building, 444 North Capitol Street, less than a block from Union Station.

The Coordinator reports to the Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, Health Policy Division. Primary responsibilities for this position include programmatic responsibilities and research and administrative assistance to advance the Association's legislative agenda. The Coordinator serves as the key link within the Department, the broader Health Policy Division (which includes a total of 5 departments), and across the entire AUA as well as with individual physician volunteers, physician committees, and outside organizations and leaders, including members of Congress and others on behalf of the Government Relations and Advocacy department. The Coordinator serves as the lead for the planning, execution and evaluation of the annual Urology Joint Advocacy Conference (JAC), plays a central role in PAC activities, supports the physician Legislative Affairs Committee, acts as the liaison and primary staff for the Urology Caucus of the American Medical Association's House of Delegates, works closely with the Association's marketing department to create materials to advertise a variety of events, and performs needed research and materials preparation for both federal and state programs. The position provides administrative and research assistance to the entire GR&A team including, but not limited to helping with the identification, tracking, and analysis of relevant state and federal issues, legislation, and regulatory activity.

A BA or BS is required, preferably in political science, social science, history or related field relevant to government or healthcare; project management skills a plus. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, able to multitask, and respond effectively to multiple staff members' requests. Requires ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner under tight deadlines. Requires ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately on a variety of projects with minimal supervision. Familiarity with MS Office suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel, required. Some travel required.
