Government and Public Affairs Coordinator, Society for Neuroscience
The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is a non-profit, professional association representing over 38,000 members working in the dynamic and multi-disciplinary field of science that deals with the brain and nervous system. Government and Public Affairs Coordinator organizes and coordinates SfN grassroots advocacy activities and projects, including facilitating member engagement in congressional advocacy and the logistical support for these efforts. Helps lead, develop and implement grassroots advocacy strategy by developing and updating grassroots materials and resources; coordinating recruitment and training of SfN members; and communicating developments in relevant legislation.
Other duties include assisting with the writing, proofreading, editing, and compilation of all government and public affairs communications, correspondence and publications; coordinating all department administrative functions, including electronic and web resources, budgeting and goal tracking; working with SfN public affairs committees on correspondence, new initiatives, and annual meeting items; and representing SfN at coalition meetings, Capitol Hill visits, and other activities, as needed.
Qualifications include familiarity or experience with grassroots organizing, Capitol Hill, the federal appropriations process, or the governmental department of an association or advocacy organization; ability to multi-task and set priorities in a flexible manner to address changing needs; and strong written, research, oral, and interpersonal skills, including proven presentation skills.
