American Society of Landscape Architects (http://www.asla.org ) seeks a Government Affairs Coordinator to support the Society's state and federal advocacy programs. Position focuses on legislative analysis, grassroots, and direct advocacy.
Coordinates state and federal legislative issues, including advocacy, tracking, research, and some lobbying.
Assists in advancing ASLA national, state, and local legislative/regulatory goals, including strategic planning and developing key messages.
Manages partnerships and relationships with allied and related organizations, including other design professions and industry and environmental groups.
Coordinates grassroots communications through the ASLA advocacy network.
Writes articles for ASLA online publications and member communications
Provides substantial support for ASLA's annual advocacy day programs.
Requires 3-5 years experience in state and/or federal government affairs with emphasis on advocacy and agency relations. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills a must, as well as knowledge of state and federal government processes and lobbying strategies. Knowledge of technical advocacy tools essential. Candidates with Hill experience preferred. Knowledge of landscape architecture and/or the planning, design, and construction industry a plus.
